Getting your home ready for mouse control

Mice come in through small gaps and stay where they find food and shelter. Taking away food and clutter helps traps work and shows where mice are getting in. Please do these steps before the visit on [DATE].

Before the visit

  1. Store all food, including pet food and birdseed, in sealed hard containers or the refrigerator. Mice chew through bags and cardboard.
  2. Clean up crumbs and spills, including under the stove and refrigerator if you can reach.
  3. Clear clutter along walls, in closets and under sinks so the technician can see droppings and gnawing.
  4. Tell the office about holes around pipes, under sinks, behind the stove, or gaps under doors.
  5. Do not move or set off traps the technician places. Keep children and pets away from them.

On the day

Show the technician where you have seen mice or droppings.

After the treatment

Tell the office if a trap has caught a mouse, or if you see new droppings. Clean droppings by wetting them with a disinfectant first and wiping them up with gloves on; do not sweep or vacuum them dry.

If you need help

If you cannot do any of these steps yourself because of age, disability, illness or anything else, tell the office before the visit. Help may be available.
